The trend: The 80s continue to be a big inspiration for the coming season with bold, bright and vibrant colours.

What the experts say: "Moving on from the seamless colour looks of the summer, colour will be brought to life with vibrant tones. From rich Marmite brown and deep mahogany to strong pearl black and accents of orange, glossy maroon and fuschia red, the colour palette is ultra colourful and bright," says HJ's 2008 Schwarzkopf Professional British Colour Technician of the Year Christel Lundqvist from hob salons, London.

Josh Rood from realhair, London, adds: "A hint or a flash of colour is going to continue to be a strong influence this season."

The trend: Bring healthy grunge up to date and give rock chicks understated but beautiful colour.

What the experts say: "You need multi-tonal colour perfectly blended to give glistening results. Brunettes should be looking for underlying warmth to give a lustrous glow, while the blondes out there need to sparkle with lightened tones. The healthy grunge look is cool girl hair, it's got some life in the roots and a really relaxed attitude, so healthy looking hair is essential," says Andrew Barton.
