Hair by jfk launches real women salon exhibition Hair by JFK Launches Real Women Salon Exhibition Hair by JFK in Edinburgh came under fire earlier this year for featuring scantily-clad models in its window displays - and now they're fighting back with a Real Women of JFK photography exhibition. The project was the brainchild of salon director, Karen Brown, who caused controversy over the installation of images in her salon windows earlier this year. The collection, which finalised for HJ's Scottish Hairdresser of the Year at the British Hairdressing Awards, caused an uproar with one local resident who took to Twitter to voice her complaints, branding the collection as sexist. Karen decided to take the criticism head on and turn it into something positive; namely a photographic exhibition featuring real salon clients of all ages, shapes and sizes. She comments:
I wanted to do something fun and positive, something which celebrated women of all ages and allowed them to be as adventurous with their style as they wanted to be. It was all about unleashing our clients' wild side and allowing them to have fun. It was great to have our clients involved in the shoot, it gave them an idea of what we do away from the salon floor. Our clients have some great personalities and I think this shoot really allowed them to shine through.
The Real Women of JFK collection is currently being exhibited at the Hair by JFK salon in Bruntsfield - and see a preview in the gallery below! [hji-gallery-legacy]
