Hailee steinfeld brings braids bang up to date

Oscar-nominated Western True Grit has thrust its 14-year-old star Hailee Steinfeld firmly in to the spotlight, with her quirky red carpet looks winning praise from fashion critics.

In the film Hailee sports a pair of tight, long braids; not quite a fishtail, not quite a French plait - but somewhere in between. 

And much as Natalie Portman and Black Swan have ensured buns remain a catwalk and red carpet favourite, it's no coincidence that braids are back in a big way - thanks in part to True Grit.

For the Tokyo premiere of True Grit, Hailee kept things simple with a long, thin plaited section to one side of her parting. It's another age-appropriate look for the young star, and the plait works well with her dress for a cute Western-inspired look.
