Eugene Souleiman was inspired by turbans and 1920s actresses to create striking wrapped hair looks for the Haider Ackermann Autumn/Winter 2014 collection.
Show:Haider Ackermann Autumn/Winter 2014
Stylist: Eugene Souleiman, global creative director of care and styling for Wella Professionals
The inspiration: 1920s actresses and turbans
The look:Half-hair, half-material wrapped hair, creating a turban shape curving around the head.
Key product: Wella Professionals Perfect Setting Blow Dry Lotion
"My references were elegant 1920’s actresses - extremely sophisticated and visually very strong<" said Eugene. "The creation of this look is more of a philosophy and a feeling rather than a technique – each girl is slightly different in the way that the hair and material is wrapped and dressed. I see the hair as art at this show – Haider Ackermann; which always inspires me to strive for the next level of hair design."
Get the look: Start with freshly washed and conditioned hair, using Wella Professionals Brilliance Shampoo and Conditioner to ensure hair is in perfect condition.
Blow-dry hair straight using Wella Professionals Perfect Setting Blow Dry Lotion to create a smooth finish, then straighten the hair with straighteners to form a flat base.
Section the hair horizontally across the head and pull the lower section into a pony tail at the nape of the neck and tie with elastic.
Wrap the rest of the hair around the head, using Wella Professionals Stay Styled hairspray to keep it all in place.
Place a net tightly over the hair, covering the ears and leaving the pony tail out at the base of the neck.
Remove the elastic from the ponytail and then wrap the length of hair back over the crown, using Stay Styled hairspray to fix and flatten the hair into a taut shape, curving around the head.
Place 3-4 black fabric bands around the head to create a woven cross-over effect like a turban.
Next, glue a two-inch wide piece of hair weft to one of the fabric bands and tightly wrap around the head to create a half hair/half material effect. The fabric bands are positioned to cover the edges of the weft.
To create the fringe, glue weft to the front fabric band and cut asymmetrically, in line with the fabric band crossing the forehead. Finish with Stay Styled to keep the hair in place and add a high-shine finish.
