Dafydd Thomas has been named the new global head of education for
ghd Professional and will now go on to lead the brand’s global education team on all aspects of training and education initiatives internationally.
Replacing outgoing global head of education
Jo Robertson, Dafydd joined the brand in 2016 as global education manager. He has since become an integral part of the team, working across shoots, shows and seminars to share his knowledge of the brand and help salons and hairdressers get the most out of their product partnership.
Dafydd is no stranger to the spotlight, with an enviable hairdressing career already under his belt at just 30 years old. He began his career in a weekly presenting spot on S4C’s daytime TV show, Prynhawn Da. While working at the Ken Picton salon in Cardiff, Dafydd became a member of the Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s acclaimed F.A.M.E. Team, and later went on to win Welsh Hairdresser of the Year at the British Hairdressing Awards; two of the biggest achievements available to hairdressers in the UK.
Dafydd has enjoyed a long-term relationship with ghd, firstly as a member of the Art Team. This role provided him with international opportunities, including product launches across Europe, trade events in the Middle East and photoshoots in Australia. All of these experiences enabled him to eventually join ghd full-time, as global education manager, in 2015. Within the role, Dafydd was responsible for countless creative achievements, including fashion week styling, events, seminars, education and numerous shoots – including the recent Edit initiative of inspirational education videos. He’s also a regular face on television both at home and abroad, including representing ghd on QVC in the US. Dafydd’s passion for, and experience within, the hairdressing industry ensures that ghd Professional continues to keep stylists at the forefront of their development, particularly within the process of creating new and exciting innovations with the ghd R&D team in Cambridge.
“I am extremely proud to be named as the global head of education for ghd, a brand that I have used for my entire career,” Dafydd says. “When you think of gorgeous, fashion-forward hair and immaculate styling, you think ghd – and to be a part of that movement is extremely exciting. I have loved working for ghd over the last three years and am lucky enough to have had insight into what is set to be an exciting future for the brand. The way that stylists want to interact with brands has changed and the way that the industry is looking to be educated is evolving. I look forward to spearheading the redevelopment of
ghd education, to ensure ghd is the brand leading that change!”
