Getting out into the hairdressing industry

This Monday, my model cancelled because she was ill. Usually, this would have been a real disappointment, but as it worked out, it was a bit of a result, because it gave me plenty of time to get ready for my first ever night out in the industry: at Redken Tribe07. It was an amazing night. I absolutely loved it and look forward to getting out and about lots more in the future.I can honestly say that I have never been to anything like it before and you could tell that everyone was a hairdressers because they were all really fashionable and individual.Personally, I went for a white shirt, skinny jeans and a chunky brown belt and had a new hair style for the event - shorter on the top; keeping the length at the back, but much darker and warmer than I have ever been before (see below).

The general theme of the event was New York chic and they'd got it down to a tee. The ceiling was pitch-black with twinkle lights like stars on the Manhattan sky-line, and the food was served in little brown boxes with chopsticks - just like in the movies. The night started with a drinks reception, before there was a big drum roll and the curtains opened on another bigger, cooler room with a dancefloor. Cassie, another junior at Forresters, and I were doing our best to spot for celebrity hairdresser, but we didn't notice any. Although we did see Alex Zane, of Popworld fame, presenting the show on stage. There were demonstrations from Lee Stafford, who did a section on black and white, and Martin Gayle for Look Fantastic, who did a really urban show, starting with dancers wearing rollerblades on the catwalk. It was a real contrast between Lee Stafford's gentle, elegant, graceful and the very New York display, but they were both excellent to see. The only down-side of the evening was that we had to head off at 10.30pm to get home at a vaguely reasonable time and we would love to have stayed longer because I'm sure the fun went well into the night. More from me next week when I'll be back to the grind. Louis
