Before Rihanna, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga made headlines with their constant style transformations, Madonna was the original queen of reinvention.
From gothic glamour to lady of the manor, Madonna has done it all - and, usually, done it first.
There's not a cut, colour or style she's not tried and in an era before extensions and wigs were quite so widespread it was often her own hair that bore the brunt of the transformations.
As befits one who likes a change, Madonna has been through a host of hairdressers - from the UK's own Adam Reed to Hollywood big-hitters including Martin Samuel and Andy Lecompte.
Bruno Marc Giamettei of Marc Antoni salons says: "The original style chameleon; nobody does reinvention like Madonna. Pick a look and she’s had it – or more likely, she popularised it in the first place.
"She has a lot of similarities with the original blonde bombshell, Marilyn Monroe, and often references her within her own styling but always moves it on to another level. So many try to emulate her - like Lady Gaga; where would she be without Madge? My all time favourite Madonna look, was the 1990′s high pony with a heavy brow and red lips. Interpretations of this look can still be seen on catwalks today."
