Fictional hairdressers and barbers: celebrating stylists on screen

Fictional hairdressers and barbers don't often present the hairdressing industry in the best light, but that doesn't mean that we haven't fallen in love with some of the stylists that have graced the silver screen.
Frenchie in
Grease may have had 'a little trouble in tinting class' and Audrey Roberts might not have ever been seen cutting hair on the cobbles of
Coronation Street, but they're still two of our favourite on-screen hairdressers.
Fictional barbers often get a more sinister tone - from the famous Demon Barber of Fleet Street,
Sweeney Todd, to Billy Bob Thornton's murderous role in
The Man Who Wasn't There.
In the case of Adam Sandler's
Zohan and Warren Beatty in
Shampoo, male stylists are presented as wholeheartedly taking advantage of their status as red-blooded males in salons full of women - and it's not just male lotharios;
The L Word's Shane McCutcheon also uses her salon as a way of picking up girls.
But not all fictional hairdressers get such a bad rap - who could fail to love Dolly Parton as Truvy in
Steel Magnolias? Edward Scissorhands made the most of his unusual appendages to become a friendly local stylist and which colourist hasn't dreamed of exacting revenge in the style of Peggy Fleming in
The Runaway Bride?
