The Fellowship for British Hairdressing's Project X students recently undertook a wig masterclass under the watchful eye of Fellowship chancellor Karine Jackson.
Karine showed images from her award-winning photographic collections and explained to the students how wigs can work perfectly in shoots and on the catwalk, when model's hair can't be touched for contractual reasons or because of time restrictions.
The students then practised their new-found skills on mannequin heads, working to the camera to perfect their presentation and demo skills while getting more comfortable with wig techniques.
Project X mentor Debbie G said: “The students had very little experience of wigs and some were quite nervous, but with Karine’s knowledge and guidance they soon relaxed and learned lots. They definitely all felt challenged, but incredibly motivated too. This was the first time in the history of Project X we’d focused on wigs and we’ll definitely try and repeat the day."
Team member Jonny Eagland added: "The day was really a new experience for us all having not really experimented with wigs before. We were blown away by the freedom you have when cutting a wig. Having no emotional relationship with it, like you would with a client, gives you full creative rein. As long as you have the right choice of wig for the shape you desire, nothing can hold you back!"
