Over the last six weeks, hairdressing has featured regularly on television with the Great British Hairdresser on E4 and Jamie's Apprentice running on ITV's This Morning. With the first looking to find a hairdresser to work alongside session stylist James Brown, the latter was designed to find a young, up and coming talent to work alongside This Morning's resident hairdresser, Jamie Stevens and as part of the prize, shoot a front cover for HJ.

The experience gained by the six finalists was invaluable; if the pressure of live television wasn't enough, each had to complete a series of challenges over the five weeks that would have tested the skills of an experienced stylist and they all worked calmly, diligently and to the best of their ability.

Working on the show has given me a fantastic opportunity to get to know six young, enthusiastic and talented individuals all of whom have reaffirmed my faith in the future of British hairdressing. Their attitude and professionalism left me feeling immensely proud of them all and I am confident that they will all go on to succeed in this dynamic industry as they have the passion, determination and talent to achieve in hairdressing, on whatever route they decide to take.

Huge congratulations to Brad Robinson who took the title, but keep an eye out for Sara Hamlyn, Amanda Hawkins, Kieron Fowles, Jack Spencer and Romy Jug too - as I am sure we will see plenty more of each of them as they work towards their own personal goals.
