End of term - louis

Monday was an 'end-of term' day for our NVQ training. We spent the day doing lots of tests, going through files and getting things signed off. Most of it was stuff that I have become quite used to now and I found myself reading through things that have become second nature - like asking a client what they want done and doing strength tests - and thinking 'oh yeah, I do that'.There were a couple of things that I thought ‘oops, I should probably do a bit more of that’, but I suppose that is the whole point of a re-capping day.

It’s all much more relaxed and we have fun together. If you’re slouching or want to get a glass of water then you can. I’m much happier learning in that sort of environment – although doing tests is still a bit of a downer! When we ‘broke up’ this time last year, I’d only just started hairdressing so there wasn’t a lot for me to forget during the summer. This year it is a bit more worrying. What if everything I have learned goes out the window during the summer? My instincts tell me that it is knowledge that stays with you: I hope they’re right!Besides, even though we’ve stopped our official training, I’m sure that the other juniors and I will still spend our Monday afternoons washing and blow-drying each others’ hair to stay with it. One last thing… I can’t have done anything too wrong with my friend Polly’s hair last week. When she went home her mum said to her ‘That looks really nice, where did you have that done?’ She said it was me and her mum said. ‘Oh, can he do mine?’ I think Polly was a bit embarrassed, but I’m more than happy to do so next time I’m round!
