Matching dress necklines and hairstyles is an art form, but one which is essential for any stylist specialising in
hair-up or
bridal work.
With wedding season upon us, and prom night bigger than ever, we spoke to the
Group Momentum Creative Team to find out which hairstyle works best for some of the most popular dress necklines.
Strapless
Wear your hair back to complement the strapless neckline. This hairstyle will give you a smooth flowing silhouette and elongate your neck.
Illusion
An elegant up do will showcase the detail of an illusion neckline really well but try to keep it simple. The last thing you want is a fussy up do and a detailed neckline!
Asymmetric
Sweep your hair to the opposite side of your asymmetric neckline, maybe with a fishtail plait. This will balance your style.
Boat
Updos will complement this neckline well. Creating height within your hair will elongate your body as well. Try neat chignons and bouffants.
Square
A gently textured updo, set low or high, will most likely be the best look for this neckline.
V neck with sleeves
Wear your hair down, however be sure it doesn’t hide too much of the décolletage. Think about a style that rests on the back versus a hairstyle that might fall to the front.
Grecian
Soft tumbling curls scooped to the back of the head to accentuate the shape of the soft material style will be perfect for this style.
Halter neck
It's important to keep the style swept higher on the head. For a natural look, try a sleek smooth up-style. Or, for a slightly bolder look, add some texture in the form of an undone braid or full curls.
High neck
We like to keep hair away from your shoulders with this style, so a glamourous updo would work best as having your hair down will be too overwhelming.
