Conversations on colour: ian brady Conversations on Colour Ian Brady   Ian Brady is the salon director at Cats Hair Salon in Dublin. Ian is also a member of the L’Oreal Professionnel 20:20 Colour Collective; an elite group of colourists from across the UK. Here, we find out more about his life in colour. What do you love most about being a colourist? What I love most about being a colourist is the fact that every head you do is different and challenging. You can make someone look at least 10 years years younger in the space of a few hours; not many jobs can give you that amount of satisfaction. That's why after 30 years colouring hair, I'm still as passionate now as I was then. What do you think are the biggest challenges facing professional colourists in 2015? Competing with home hairdressing and DIY colouring. What do you think is the most exciting ‎thing about being a colourist in 2015? The range of colours and techniques available. Ammonia-free was a big breakthrough. Now we can customise colours to suit any complexion without compromising the condition. What colour trend or technique are you most excited about for 2015? Placing panels of lighter shades throughout the hair to make it shimmer and not one dimensional. A classic head of multi coloured highlights is hard to beat too. What one piece of advice would you give to trainee colourists ‎who would love to be where you are now? First of all, you need to have a real passion for hair colouring. You can't just like it, you have to really love it. Work in a salon with a great reputation for hairdressing, train with the very best and work your ass off! I've been colouring hair for over 30 years and I still learn something new every day! Widget_HJ
