As HJi celebrates the very best in colour, we talk to some of our current colour crushes to find out more about their life, work and loves.

Today we talk to Rae Palmer, who is creative director and owner of the We Love salon in Portsmouth. A former winner of HJ's Southern Hairdresser of the Year, Rae is also a L'Oreal Colour Specialist.

We asked Rae about her colour loves, hates and the celebrity colouring trend which he wishes had never happened...

Name: Rae Palmer

Salon: Owner and creative director at We Love, Portsmouth.

Training and qualifications: Trained with numerous top stylists and salons such as Otto Ott, Umberto Giannini, Toni and Guy and Redken. I am also a L'Oreal Colour Specialist and former winner of HJ's Southern Hairdresser of the Year.

When did you decide to specialise in colour?
I decided to specialise in colour almost as soon as had I learnt to cut. I felt as though the cut needed to be finished more and I needed colour to do that.

Why do you love working with colour?
I love working with colour because it's so creative and the results have an amazing effect on the cut and shape of the hair but also on the client; improving their self esteem and mood and just seeing how good the colour can make them feel about themselves.

Whose colour work do you admire the most?
I think Annie Humphreys is the queen but I also love Sue Pemberton and Christel Lundqvist.

Where do you find your inspiration?
My inspiration can come from anywhere; it's about using your vision all the time. It could be a fabric or material - at the moment I love denim colours. The garden is a great inspiration for me too and I love any kind of garden centre! I'm also a fan of beautiful landscapes- you can't beat watching a Mediterranean sunset with a pina colada in the hand too!

What colours do you predict we'll be seeing a lot of this Spring/Summer?
This Spring/Summer pastels rule - I'm loving playing with different shades of blue and green at the moment too.

What techniques are you using a lot of at the moment?
As our clients become increasingly time conscious, techniques are shorter in time and more about strategically placing colour rather than as many foils as we can pack in.

Which colour trend do you wish had never taken off?
I love ombré colours, but seeing it on the telly as a technique that could be done at home was a huge regret for me to see!

Which celebrity do you think always gets colour right?
Kate Moss is queen of rock chicks but also she rocks her colour. Her blonde always really suits her and I love how she plays with different techniques and shades of blondes too.
