As HJi celebrates the very best in colour, we talk to some of our current colour crushes to find out more about their life, work and loves.
Today we talk to Faye Turner, HOB Salons creative colour director and head of technical education at HOB Academy.
A former colour director of the Sassoon Academy, her role at HOB not only sees her heading up all of the creative colour at the multi award-winning salon group - from their collections to their celebrity clients - but also sees her sharing her wealth of knowledge with the academy's national and international students.
Name: Faye Turner
Salon: Creative colour director at HOB Salons and head of technical education at HOB Academy.
Training and qualifications: NVQ 2 and 3, A1 NVQ Assessor, MCP Colour Club, Sassoon Colour Director (academy), HOB Head of Technical.
When did you decide to specialise in colour?
Quite early in my hairdressing career everyone said I was going to be a colourist. I rebelled for a while but then I tried it and the rest is history!
Why do you love working with colour?
Colour inspires me and colour physiology intrigues me. How the eye sees colour and the thoughts and feelings that surround different colours always fascinates me.
Whose colour work do you admire the most?
Annie Humphreys was my teacher and mentor; what she doesn't know about colour isn't worth knowing.
Where do you find your inspiration?
My inspiration always comes from the model I'm colouring, but also street fashion and art.
Contemporary artists always put contrasting colours together beautifully which I love.
What colours do you predict we'll be seeing a lot of this Spring/Summer?
Definitely candy colours from last season will be popping up again, as well as more cooler metallic blondes. Softness with brunettes will be a biggie as root stretch takes on a more grown up sophisticated look.
What techniques are you using a lot of at the moment?
Clients at HOB are still asking for softness with their colour so we are working a lot with blending techniques and seamless colour applications.
Which colour trend do you wish had never taken off?
Nineties girl power Geri Halliwell stripes - I had them too....bad idea!
Which celebrity do you think always gets colour right?
I think Little Mix are rocking it right now, they always look bang on trend.
