The ClubStar Art Team recently spent a day with educator Debbie G and project leader Leah Walton, honing their presentation skills ahead of an exciting year.
It was the first meeting for the 2015 team, and their time was focussed around building up team spirit through training, getting geared up for the year ahead and preparing for their upcoming stage work. Debbie talked everyone through the importance of a professional presenting style and how to build a structure to a presentation, before asking the team to take to the stage individually and practice.
"I loved Debbie’s enthusiasm and excitement," says team member Nathan Telford of Nicola Smyth Award Winning Hair. "It was such an honour that she took the time to come and share her amazing knowledge and advice with us. It was such a good opportunity and that's what is so great about the Fellowship."
Debbie adds: "There is a great mix of dynamics within this year's ClubStar Art Team, with many different levels of experience to draw upon. The younger generation move on too quickly and give up too easily - on a salon, a theme or on a trend. Go slow and work hard and if you can find an inspirational image, use it as inspiration for months rather than moments."
ClubStar is the youth membership programme of the Fellowship for British Hairdressing, which recognises young talent and offers opportunities for its members. It is exclusively for hair professionals aged 16-25 and supports NVQ/SVQ education. It gives members the opportunity to meet, share ideas and develop creativity, while engaging with events, competitions and educational workshops.
