Citrus Hair Salon in Vancouver is an environmentally-friendly space, whose style credentials are as exemplary its green achievements.
The salon is the Yaletown area of Vancouver; a heritage warehouse district, home to beautifully spacious buildings with plenty of original features. It was these old wood beams, brick walls and concrete floors that attracted owner Antonella Biefeni, whose aim was to combine these vintage details with a modern update.
She says: "I chose white as the primary colour because it's pure, fresh and clean and gives us a bright space to work in, especially for our colour work. We painted over the badly-stained concrete floor with a bright white, durable paint which completely lit the place up. The ample eco-friendly fluorescent lighting bounces off the white for added brightness and clarity. This brightness also makes the space feel cheery, friendly and energetic."
While creating a good-looking space was important, sticking to an eco-friendly brief was also a priority for the salon. As a member of the
Green Circle Salons imitative, Citrus recycle everything from colour tubes and packaging to foils and hair.
Most of the furnishings are upcyled or refurbished, including the front desk, styling chairs, mirrors and colour bar cupboard.
"The goal was to combine the old, warehouse look with modern elements," concludes Antonella, "But also to incorporate an eco-conscious feel to it."
