Lady Gaga and Cher both released new videos this week and, as you would expect from two such divas, they're as much a treat for the eyes as the ears.
Cher
debuted the video for Woman's World yesterday; the first single from comeback album Closer to the Truth - her first full release in twelve years.
As befits a female-empowerment anthem, the video sees Cher appear in split scenes with other women of different ages, races and body shapes - but it is, of course, her hair that we're most interested in.
The video opens with Cher in a shaggy newspaper wig - the same wig that appears on
the cover of the single. But in true diva form, that's not the only hair look we see...

Cher sports three different wigs in the video; joining the shredded newspaper style is a tiger-striped white wig with blunt fringe and straight lengths and a wild, textured red look that fans out into a triangular shape thanks to dressed-out frizz.
Wig count: 3

Lady Gaga also released a new single this week, the eagerly-anticipated
Applause. As per her past videos, there's no shortage of style inspiration on display - remember
the multi-wig Judas promo? And who can forget the visual extravaganza that was
Telephone?
Applause is no different - as well as countless costume changes, we're also treated to some pretty inspiring wig moments. Above we see Gaga sporting a big and bouncy blonde bouffant - not dissimilar to
her recent V magazine cover. Let's take a closer look at her other styles...

Ignoring the swan body for a second, the next look is a great style on Gaga - a sleek, creamy crop with curved fringe and head-hugging shape. I love this cut on her - fashion-forward without being too scary.
Next up is a vibrant head of yellow Marilyn curls, which immediately call to mind both
Roy Lichtenstein blondes and the primary-hued wigs from
Meadham Kirchhoff Autumn/Winter 2012.
As Gaga reclines in a giant top hat, we're treated to another great look; slicked-back,
Bowie-esque blonde. As with the swan style, this would be a great cut for her to choose IRL.
Popping out of a pot, we then see Gaga sporting a more natural style. In her natural brunette shade, this textured look has a gothic feel - in fact with the boiling pot and dramatic smoke, it feels slightly inspired by
Macbeth's witches.
Gaga goes natural once more with a shaggy brunette style, again harking back to
the Joan Jett-inspired cover she shot for V recently.
The final hairstyle we see showcases Gaga as a gothic Grecian goddess with long dark locks topped off by a floral headband - a perfectly glam end to a diva-tastic video.
Wig count: 7
Verdict: Lady Gaga takes it on this occasion, but even with her wardrobe of wigs she's no match for the mighty Cher who has a whole 40 extra years of wig-wearing expertise behind her. We salute Cher's lifelong dedication to the more avant-garde world of hair and equally tip our hats to Gaga for picking up the barnet baton and running with it.
