Charlie le mindu debuts at lfw
Forget tasteful bobs and pretty fringes, the Charlie Le Mindu hair show at London Fashion Week pulled out all the stops to shock and delight the jam-packed audience of hipsters.
Drag Queen
Jodie Harsh, known for her love of big hair, sat happily in the front row with her Leigh Bowery look-a-like friend and was seen mouthing the words "fab" as soon as the first model took to the stage. Balancing a giant red square of hair on her head, this Toyahesque, avant garde style started the show perfectly.
The following looks didn't disappoint with a pinky blonde, high hair creation teamed with matching, long hair gloves, a Grace Jones style angular headdress also featured along with plenty of skulls and voodoo styles that wouldn't have looked out of place in an Indiana Jones film.
Not for the faint-hearted, the shock-piece of the show was a hair mask that was created from flattened white rats and mice.
Despite the extreme head-peices on display, Charlie did include some more wearable and chic crimped and pinned hair styles. All of the looks in the show were created with the help of Fudge products.
The final look certainly wasn't subtle, a full body hair-suit in pure white, reminiscent of a giant jellyfish. The long hair lengths glided along the catwalk to pretty French music and completed the show on a high.
Chairlie gave some insight into the inspiration behind his weird and wonderful creations. "People often think that wigs are something silly to dress up in. I wanted to show that they can be bold and beautiful."
Inspiration came from eclectic sources, as Charlie explains; "I wanted to mix Victorian trends with a baroque theme. Aliens and voodoo culture also influenced the styles."
With cutting-edge celebrity clients like Bloc Party and the B52's and a bold entry into London Fashion Week, this won't be the last we hear of Chalie Le Mindu.
