Central Saint Martins BA Fashion presented two live epic shows with 134 collections at One Granary Square in London on Thursday 25 May 2023.

L’Oréal Professionnel is the long-term partner for Central Saint Martins BA Fashion and each year provides a team of professional hairstylists to support the graduating designers and create the hair for the show. This year, the team were led by Darren and Jackie Ambrose. The team included:

  • Holly Matheson, Adam Reed Hair
  • Sam Bickle, Adam Reed Hair
  • Lucy Boodell, Goldsworthys
  • Stephen Campbell, Hair & Co
  • Arthur Tracey, Mack Hairdressing
  • Hair Spalding, O’Sullivans Concept Salons
  • Staisha Buck, Sean Hanna
  • Rosie Jones, Trevor Sorbie
  • Nayana Finn-Healy, Trevor Sorbie
  • Colette Tamke, Trinder Studio
  • James Holroyd, Yoke the Salon

There were three to four main hair looks with some variation to suit the wide range of collections: slicked wet look, an obscure parting, curls and a messy knot or plait, which were created using the core Tecni.art styling and Curl Expert range by L’Oréal Professionnel.

Chatting to HJ after the show, Darren Ambrose commented on the inspiration behind the looks: “The inspiration definitely came from the designers – they had their stories behind their collections – and from there we narrowed it down to three looks.”

And when asked about coping under pressure and working backstage at fashion events, Darren said: “You have to deal with each model as they come. Bang, one sorted, next one sits down, bang, two sorted. You kind of don’t think about it and run off the adrenaline, it’s amazing. Working backstage is full of so much energy, the models are beautiful, and the excitement in the atmosphere makes a big difference. But it’s good to remain focused and not get psyched up.”

To further support the graduating students on their career path, L’Oréal Professionnel presents an annual award to the most talented student(s) judged each year by a panel of Fashion Industry experts invited by Central Saint Martins, who unanimously agreed this year’s show-stopping winner Eden Brader-Tan.

  • 3rd Runner Up: Ivan Delogu
  • 2nd Runner Up: Alba Mas Amoros
  • L’Oréal Professionnel Award: Eden Brader-Tan

As always, the shows were attended by leading figures in the world of fashion and design including Zandra Rhodes, Grayson Perry, Roksanda Illincic and Sarah Mower.

Sarah Gresty, BA Fashion Course Leader commented: “Unity and togetherness are at the core of the BA Fashion Show 2023. The graduates have reflected on world events and their experiences, each contributing to their connected concerns living on a planet in such disarray. Every designer is showing two to four looks from their final collection, an edit of their incredible output. We congratulate them on all their achievements.”
