As the Queen celebrates 60 years on the throne, we look back at the changing celebrity hairstyles which have influenced hairdressing trends, clients and photographic collections since her reign began. Here we look at the stars of the seventies.
While English style in the seventies may have been rocked by punk, more mainstream styles looked to America for looks that were big, bold and glam. Inspired by disco and stars of the small screen like Farrah Fawcett and Britain's own Joanna Lumley, hair in this era was big, bold and made a statement.
Even the natural look went supersized, with Afro icons like Diana Ross and Pam Grier opting for big, bouncy, beautiful curls. And while Raquel Welch may have played a cave woman in One Million Years BC, her voluminous mane was definitely given a helping hand with a can or two of hairspray!
Neil Barton of Neil Barton Hairdressing, Edinburgh, says: "The 1970s was a revolutionary time for hairdressing. The 1960s saw the rise in popularity of strong geometric shapes and the mod look, but as fashion progressed and the hippie boho look became more popular, more relaxed finishes emerged in the 1970s. Other key looks that came to the fore during this time were influenced by the rise of disco and soul, adding greater diversity to hair styling."
Farah Fawcett
"Farah Fawcett's exaggerated flicks are iconic. The fresh blonde colour, combined with the volume and bounce makes for a really feminine look and one that was copied the world over."
Joanna Lumley
"Joanna Lumley's hairstyle is an example of the evolution of the bob - the short length and heavy fringe keeps it looking edgy, but it is much more graduated, with a softer finish than the 1960s five point bob."

Raquel Welch
"Raquel Welch's hair complements her smouldering sex siren image perfectly. The backcombed crown and the seductive side swept fringe frame her features beautifully, while the gently tumbling length add a natural edge to this updo."
Diana Ross
"Diana Ross's hairstyle is so reminiscent of the Studio 54 glam disco look. Big, bold curls form the classic round Afro shape. The height of this style creates real drama and it has great texture."
