Celebrity hairstyles at the critics choice awards

Published 09th Jan 2009 by alexherrera

With awards season in full swing, it's a great time to be a stylist or hairdresser to the stars.

The latest red carpet for show business' finest to be glammed up for was the Critics Choice Awards.

But while some celebrities shone; some will be considering sacking those afore-mentioned stylists!

We asked long-hair guru Michael Barnes to cast his eye over some of the celebrity hair on the red carpet and give us his verdict.

Verdict: Style icon
Angelina Jolie "This is a nice simple ponytail, understated and on trend. She's gorgeous so she could wear practically anything, but this is a particularly good look for her and works well on the red carpet."

Verdict: Sack the stylist
Eva Longoria "Eva lets us down with this look, which makes her quite old fashioned. I'd have had her hair a bit longer on her cheeks and covering her ears; her fringe is too thin and separated."

Verdict: Style icon
Kate Beckinsale  "Another understated look that's very fashionable and suits her nicely. The hair is centre parted and sleek, and probably tied into a chignon at the back."

Verdict: Style icon
Katie Perry "Glam ringlets are a red carpet staple; you can't go wrong with this look. It's not particularly on trend for anywhere else as it's a bit over-the-top burlesque, but works well in this setting."

Verdict: Could do better
Kristin Scott-Thomas

"This is groomed but it's another quite old fashioned style; the hair looks glossy and well conditioned though. It's quite plain for the red carpet."

Verdict: Sack the stylist
Anne Hathaway "Boring! Anne's chic bob just doesn't look like it's been styled - it's too flat to the head and should have been bouncier or more textured. It's a wasted opportunity for the red carpet."
