Saw it on TikTok - The Hairdresser Edition

Published 15th Nov 2023 by Charlotte Grant-West

We love watching hairdressers on TikTok – the transformations, the BTS secrets and the everyday behind-the-chair lols keep us coming back for more.

But it's certainly an art – hairdressers have to be engaging enough to attract followers, but always ensure the content pushes the professional message. Here's who we think is nailing TikTok right now.

James Busby

This stylist (who is based in Walton-on-Thames) is all about showing the power of a consultation and giving clients beautiful, wearable styles that they love. His content primarily features his own clients – this is an influencer-free zone.

James recently created a social series called Cut to the Crime, which features James' normal in-depth consultation but the twist is that all his clients are either a victim of crime, have a criminal past or work within the criminal field. The aim? To show that everyone is worthy of your time and professionalism as a stylist. James turns the notion of TikTok being about instant transformations, influencers and 15 second clips on its head – and we love his account because of that.

Daniel Granger

Getting to grips with people's hair-y issues is Daniel's MO. Courtesy of Daniel's work on E4's The Body Fixers, he's all about showing the transformative power of hair and beauty. His viral videos include a woman whose messy bun got so matted that it stayed put without a bobble, and a client who gets a restyle after brain surgery.

Casey Coleman

Casey’s chair is like a walking reality show and it’s a joy to be a fly on the wall in his studio. The client requests have us in stitches (“I want to look like I’ve been sh*gged!”) and Casey’s cheeky responses are always on point (the chemistry between Casey and Tracey is beautiful to behold). Loveable hairdresser Casey always shouts out the everyday hairdresser too with his ‘day in the life of’ reels that are less glamour and more getting a wedgie behind the colour bar. We just want to give him a big cwtch.

The Hair Bros

Wearable hair that's achingly cool is the thread of steel running through the Hair Bros’ TikTok (but let's face it, the people that The Hair Bros have in their seats would look great in a bin bag!) Cool girl cuts include the ‘no commitment fringe’, ‘the midi bob’ and ‘the Italian bob’. The star of the show at The Hair Bros Chelsea salon is the dry cut. Clients come in with freshly washed, but crucially dry, hair and the team gets to work on creating a style that works with their hair’s natural shape and texture.

SliderCuts

The fades from barber Mark Maciver (aka SliderCuts) are a true art form. Precise, speedy and often directly aimed at the pro, his videos are informative both creatively and from a business perspective and useful whether you're a barber or a hairdresser. Shout out to Slidercuts' famous clientele who sometimes make an appearance - hello, Anthony Joshua, Dizzee Rascal and Munya Chawawa to name but a few.
