Beauty survey reveals new mums' changing habits

The UK's gone baby crazy this week with the birth of Prince George, now third in line to the throne.

While the Duchess of Cambridge might be the most famous new mum of the moment, there are hundreds of other women every day who find their lives changed forever by a new arrival.

According to a survey by Proctor & Gamble, becoming a mother for the first time has big effects on a woman's beauty regime.

Hardly surprisingly, two thirds of those asked said the amount of time they had to spend on their beauty regime decreased, while 43% revealed they no longer have time to wear any make-up at all.

What is more surprising is that 8% of the new mums polled said they spent more time on grooming after the birth of their first child, perhaps because they were feeling it took longer to make themselves look their best.

Sadly for salons, new mothers admitted they booked fewer appointments, with 22% of those who went regularly before the birth of their baby only visiting the salon rarely afterwards, and 15% not going at all.

A third of new mothers also gave up perfume, although this was not down to time constraints, but because they wanted the new baby to recognise their mum's smell.
