Barrie stephen's colour responsible campaign goes national

Leicestershire salon owner Barrie Stephen is campaigning for every salon in the UK to adopt a Colour Responsible Policy. His petition, hosted on change.org, has over 500 signatures and gaining interested in the industry. The policy commits a salon to skin testing every client a minimum of 48 hours prior to any colour service, every time. Although rare, allergic reactions to hair colourants do happen and implementing this policy could prevent casualty. The Barrie Stephen Hair group of salons have had a Colour Responsible Policy in place for over four years. To gain support for this campaign Barrie met with Hilary Hall of the National Hairdresser’s Federation and Nick Plunkett of Colourstart, the creators of an allergy indicator used throughout the hairdressing industry, to discuss the way forward. He is also supported on his campaign by author of the new book Forewarned is Forearmed, Debbie Digby-Smith. Debbie’s book examines the legal issues hair salons can face when applying chemical services.  “This is about client welfare,” says Barrie. “I can’t believe that any salon owner in the country wouldn’t put the safety of their clients above everything else. Instituting a Colour Responsible Policy is not difficult, and implementing it is very simple.” For more information visit change.org
