Award-winning style: our favourites from the cfda awards The CFDA Awards came to New York City this week so of course we were on the look out for our favourite 'dos to grace the red carpet. We caught up with some of the best in the biz for their lowdown on who were their hair heroes. Alexa Chung Image by: Benny Lozovsky/BFA/REX/Shutterstock Jason Collier, Celebrity Stylist and Bespoke Brand Ambassador Alexa Chung 'The classic ‘Alexa’ bob made a stunning showcase on the red carpet. Her messy-chic waves matched well with her grungey eye make up and leather dress. Her signature tousled waves always look effortless and are so easy to recreate. Simply by towel drying the hair and using a spritz of Original Mineral Atonic Thickening Spritz to add volume and rough dry until 95% perfect dry, scrunching the hair at the ends whilst drying to add texture.  Use a curling tong and twirl random sections of the hair and tease with your fingers to get that undone style. Add a sea salt spray like Original Mineral Surf Bomb to achieve the most natural looking texture and backcomb hair slightly at the roots.' Karlie kloss Image By: Kristina Bumphrey/Starpix/REX/Shutterstock Neil Barton, Owner of Neil Barton Hairdressing and Goldwell Ambassador and UK Guest Artist Karlie Kloss 'Karlie Kloss looked gorgeous at the CFDA Awards with her glossy topknot. When it comes to creating a topknot, placement is key — it should sit flat on the top of the head like Karlie’s showing off her stunning facial features and fabulous cheekbones. Create volume by backcombing for fluffiness and a ‘natural’ looking up-do to making it look beautifully effortless. Pull out a few strands of hair at the front to add to that wispy, tousled effect.' [caption id="attachment_84859" align="alignnone" width="640"]The Olsen Sisters Image by: Kristina Bumphrey/Starpix/REX/Shutterstock[/caption] Suzie McGill, International Artistic Director at Rainbow Room International and Owner of Rainbow Room International Uddingston Olsen Sisters 'With an all black ensemble for the Olsen sisters, their hair stole the show. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen had their staple ‘beach waves’ look which is easily created with a diffuser when blowdrying and a simple seal salt spray to add some oomph and texture. Whereas little sister, Elizabeth, went for the 90s ‘half-up’ ponytail, creating more of an edgy look. Once hair is dry secure a high half ponytail at the crown of the hair and secure with an invisible elastic. Create some waves using a curling tong and massage curls with fingertips to get that grunge ‘just-out-of-bed’ hair look and secure with a light hold hairspray.' Joan Smalls Image by: Kristina Bumphrey/Starpix/REX/Shutterstock Alison Stewart, Owner of Alison Stewart Hairdressing Joan Smalls 'A jaw-dropping change for Joan Smalls, gone is her signature look of her centre part and perfectly sleek hair. Instead she opted for a choppy bob and short fringe and she rocked it! Her shoulder grazing length had a playful edge with a wave effect and when sprayed with a finishing oil spray gave her look great shine and pieced-out texture. Her super short fringe is left soft and is not that harsh, showing off her stunning features face against the perfect bold red lip.' Alessandra Ambrosio John Gillespie, Owner of John Gillespie Hairdressing and Inventor of  Arconic Brush Alessandra Ambrosio 'This sleek and simple look really shines when paired against this bright purple Michael Kors dress. To achieve Alessandra's pin straight locks, start off with freshly washed hair. Dry the hair with a paddle brush which will add volume when blowdrying, it speeds up drying time and smoothes hair perfectly for this look. Section it off into two parts and skin over with hair straighteners, backcomb the crown of the hair to add a bit of hold and use a shine spray for the ultimate red carpet effect.' Love this?
