From textured updos incorporating curls and accessories to simple knotted styles and on-trend braids, the red carpet provides a wealth of inspiration for savvy stylists inspired by the A-list.
Here we look at some of the sleekest catwalk updos of the season...

Taylor Swift
"I think this updo is a real hit. It gently emphasises Taylor's natural beauty and complements her look without dominating. It's clean and chic enough to fit a red-carpet event, but still pretty, loose and playful - she is a country pop singer after all. To recreate, use mousse or a thickening product on damp hair and dry messily without a nozzle. When dry, tong the hair section by section, shake out and put in a loose ponytail on the side. Plait the hair and then put it up or just set the waves."
Adam Szabo, Trevor Sorbie, Covent Garden, London
Kourtney Kardashian
"Kourtney has the perfect hair for this style; full and thick with a lovely soft wave. She looks glam, but not too overdone and the band gives it a chic finish. To achieve this look, I would put hair in a high ponytail, backcomb it and use pins to create the bun shape. Finish the style by pulling out a few strands of hair around the face, then place the hairband in position for a glamorous, contemporary look."
Colin McAndrew, Medusa Salons, Edinburgh

Whitney Port
"I love Whitney's version of the ballerina bun, which is so on-trend at the moment. Although it looks simple, it's actually quite tricky to pull off this style with aplomb. It's a case of deciding where on the head the bun is to be positioned and how high and thick it will be. In this instance, Whitney has got it just right - it's effortless glamour and looks as though it's been whipped up in a minute."
Louise Smith, Toni & Guy, Salisbury, Wiltshire
Jessica Lowndes
"Jessica, who is usually renowned for her long, bouncy blow-dries, shows a different side to her personal style here and I love the sophisticated look on her. She has combined an elegant updo with an on-trend centre parting and rope plaits, resulting in a style that enhances and complements her face shape and cheekbones beautifully."
Jake Unger, HOB Salons, Camden, London
