Allen ruiz: north american hairstylist of the year

[hji-gallery-legacy] Allen Ruiz was named North American Hairstylist of the Year in 2013 - and there's just weeks to go until US stylists will be battling it out for the title at this year's ceremony. Before the new names are announced, we take a look back at Allen's award-winning collection which was styled with Aveda products and shot by Jenny Hands. Allen says: "My vision for the shoot was the 60s ‘It’ girls come undone. Women perfectly done up through the day but gradually unravelled for a raw, sultry, dark almost moody look and feel for the evening. I was also influenced by the recent Marc Jacobs show when his models paid homage to 60s icons Edie Sedgwick and Peggy Moffitt for this whole ‘mod’ understated chic look. The simple black roll necks and grey background also gave the shots that Mary Quant feel."
