Akin konizi's june highlights

Being British Hairdresser of the Year creates numerous opportunities, these are just some of the highlights of another busy month in Akin Konizi's diary.
What: London College of Fashion BA Graduate Show
Where: Flower Cellars, Russell Street
When: 4th June 2009
Why: June began with the London College of Fashion BA Graduate Show. As the newest talent in fashion prepared to showcase their designs on the catwalk, Akin led the team whom styled the hair on behalf of Wella Professionals. Working through the day preparing models for the two scheduled shows, BA (Hons) Fashion Design & technology graduates showcased their outstanding collections, with a total of 28 collections gracing the catwalk.
Akin and the team created a beautifully sleek and smooth style, with models sporting long locks with soft waves and curls. Supermodel Erin O'Connor was among the crowd watching the show.
Akin says: "As part of the fashion industry, it is always exciting to see what the next generation is bringing forward. This event really showcased some of the rising talents within the fashion design industry, and leading the hair styling team on behalf of Wella Professionals was great."
What: FHBF Seminar Inspirations 2009
Where: St John's Hotel, Solihull
When: 14th June 2009
Why: Akin, along with HJ's 2008 British Colour Technician of the Year Christel Lundqvist and creative team member Claire Dawson presented to the Freelance Hair and Beauty Federation at their Inspirations day. Sponsored by Wella Professionals, the creative day welcomed an audience of 130 people and saw Akin and Claire present two demo models, as well as presenting three models on stage to the awaiting freelance hairdressers. Meanwhile Christel discussed everything colour related and revealed her expert colour techniques and choices.
Akin says: "Working with the Hair and Beauty Federation is always fantastic and very rewarding. Having built a great relationship with them and having welcomed many of their members to our hob academy in Camden for courses, I really relished the opportunity to go to their territory and present with Claire and Christel and the other great hairdressers in the line up."
What: Hairdressing Council Luncheon & Tea
Where: House of Commons
When: 22nd June 2009
Why: The Hairdressing Council holds an annual reception in the House of Commons which is primarily to lobby parliament about the benefits of mandatory registration, but also as a get-together for key industry personnel. This year, The Hairdressing Council invited all the winners of the British Hairdresser of the Year Awards to a luncheon before attending the tea party and Akin, current British Hairdresser of the Year was invited to attend. A truly historical event, the day revolved aroundstate registration for hairdressers, an issue Akin feels passionately about. At the end of the lunch, Akin received his honorary State Registered Hairdresser certificate for the forthcoming year.
Akin says: "I feel state registration is so important for public protection. as all hairdressers should be trained to practice. It would help hairdressing gain the recognition it rightly deserves as a skill and a craft. In my opinion, this is a long overdue legislation that should be passed immediately and this event offered me a great opportunity to get more involved."
