9 Essential Hair Looks From Classic Christmas Films

Published 14th Dec 2023 by hjiadmin

For many of us, the cold weather equals staying indoors snuggled up watching Christmas films – so we think it’s about time that some of the most iconic hair looks from classic festive flicks get some love! For HJ’s Season of Giving, we run down (in no particular order) our favourite hair dos from these timeless Christmas films.

Mary Bailey from It’s a Wonderful Life

From this quintessential Christmas classic, Mary Bailey’s shiny, retro hair cannot be overlooked and remains stunning to this day. Even in black and white, legendary actress Donna Reed’s 'do screams elegance and sophistication.

Cindy Lou Who from The Grinch

We can’t say this one will be easy to recreate, but Cindy Lou Who’s braids and accessories are equal parts goofy and festive and we can’t get enough of them.

Holly Gennero from Die Hard

Is Die Hard actually a Christmas film? We’ll allow it for this list so we can celebrate these iconic brunette curls from Holly Gennero, as played by Bonnie Bedelia.

Buddy from Elf

Although they spend most of the film squashed under a long green hat, Will Ferrell in Elf presents another set of glorious curls in a Christmas film, just beating out Zooey Deschanel’s blonde locks from the movie.

Dorey Walker from Miracle on 34th Street

Say what you will about Dorey Walker’s… questionable parenting choices in Miracle on 34th Street, but there’s no debating she’s got a badass attitude and her light brunette flicks with plenty of shine are pretty stunning.

The Wet Bandits from Home Alone

While we desperately wanted to give it to yet another set of Christmas curls with Marv Murchin, we had to give both of The Wet Bandits a shout-out simply for the sight of Joe Pesci’s bald, burnt head poking out the top of a beanie.

Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas

Sally’s long red hair brings so much character and vibrancy to Tim Burton’s dark vision of Christmas, and we also love everyone’s attempts at translating it into real life, too.

Iris Simpkins from The Holiday

It’s rare that Kate Winslet isn’t looking great, but she looks particularly stand-out in the wonderfully heartwarming The Holiday.

Juliet from Love Actually

It’s a tough competition for the best hair look in everyone’s favourite holiday rom-com, but we’re going to have to give it to Keira Knightley's stunning, sleek blonde look.
