Women aged 46 can no longer get away with wearing their hair long, according to research from hair care site Fabriah.com.
The survey asked 800 women in their twenties and thirties at which age they considered long hair to be inappropriate, with 46 the average response.
Almost all of the respondents (98%) said that they didn't plan to wear their hair long over 60, with almost three quarters (73%) saying they would go short before hitting 50.
One 26 year old women commented: "Long hair looks great on young people but when a women gets over 40 she is pushing it a bit and if she still wears it long at 50 she risks being branded mutton dressed as lamb."
