Forget dry-shampooed roots and tousled top knots - festival hair gets a style upgrade this season with on-trend braids, next-generation knots and quirky accessories.

Alexa's
Marc Jacobs-inspired pigtail plaits are a cute and quirky look - ideal for dressing up with accessories or a spritz of glitter down the parting.

Keep hair back from the face all weekend long with a tightly cornrowed style like Amanda Seyfried rocked on the red carpet recently.

Gwen Stefani gives top knots a twist with this double knotted style. Baby buns look super-cute on shorter styles as well as longer locks - just add a couple more if clients have lots of hair.

Kelly O proves that short hair can be equally versatile - and join in with the plaited trend - with this braided mohawk.

The halo braid is a modern summer classic. Kerry keeps it sleek and sophisticated on the red carpet, but this style will look even better once it's slightly worn-in with tousled texture and flyaways.

Laura Bailey's tight pigtail plaits are a great option for long-haired lovelies and would look equally great with ribbons or fabric woven through for added interest.

Wash-out temporary colours were made for festival season. Lily's pastel shades are a perfect summery option and are ideal for clients who can't commit to full-time colour.

Peyton List's knotted mohawk takes its cue
from the catwalks and is a simple, super-cool upgrade on the classic topknot.

Actress Sarah Paulson makes accessories a statement with these piled-on kirby grips. A perfect retail option - find some fun, funky and brightly-coloured accessories and pop them for sale in reception!

Got a local florist? Why not partner for a floral crown-making session? Loads of independent florists now offer these classes and they're a perfect pairing for salons. Send clients off looking as stylish as Vanessa Hudgens with a wavy bob to match their new accessory!
