'go back to black' hairdressers tell amy

Amy Winehouse's beehive was one of the iconic hairstyles of 2007 - but the pop icon has ditched the look for the new year. As well as having her black locks dyed blonde, she's had her long hair cut off, although so far she's somewhat hidden the new style under a head scarf.

According to the red-tops Amy says she's gone for the change she said 'I felt like it', which is as good a reason as any, but we're still not convinced that the new tone is the best for the troubled star and we're not the only ones to say so...Richard Ward of the Richard Ward Hair & Metrospa feels that the 'trailer park' blonde completely misses the mark. He told BBC Radio Five Live: "Amy should take her own advice and go 'Back to Black! From the press photos, it's hard to see what she's done cut wise under the headscarf, but colour-wise she's far too dark to attempt this light blonde colour. "You can see from her eyebrows how naturally dark her base is, and it's foolish to think she can go as light as this without going for a crop a la Agyness Deyn. This colour is trashy - trailer park blonde! "Clearly Amy Winehouse is a woman who loves pushing her look to the extreme - but this is way off the mark. While she's at it, the eyeliner could do with some work too!"Yesmin O’Brien, creative director at seanhanna feels that Amy will have a tough time managing her new look. She added: "Amy’s been in a bad way for a while, so maybe she’s been persuaded to believe the myth that blondes have more fun!""Unfortunately the tones are still rather yellow. To lift her hair colour that much is very difficult – and I’m afraid she won’t be having a lot of fun with her hair if she doesn’t look after it… such a drastic colour change is high maintenance. Amy will need to find some time to lavish some attention on it!"When her hair was dark she could get away with her unkempt, messed-up beehive, but now she’s blonde, I fear that is not going to work well at all!" Sean Fordham at FordhamWhite is another hairdresser with a simple message for Amy: "Bring back the dark haired soul diva that we all know and love!", he says If you'd like to have your say on the Amy goes blonde debate, join in the chat on the My HJI forum. In the meantime, our last word on the subject is that this is the perfect reminder that anyone considering a colour change should be reminded that they might need to amend their make-up to complement the look!
