X factor style: week five

This week's X Factor had a Halloween theme, and while not all of the contestants stuck to typically scary songs, they all made an effort with spooky styling

Cheryl Cole still has all her girls in place, and after this week's performances it's easy to see why. Cher Lloyd blew me away with her voice, but also spooked me out with her similarity to her mentor. The kinky curls and beehive are so Cheryl!

Although Katie Waissel's makeup was a bit scary, her white candy floss 'fro was brilliant, especially with the little crown.

Treyc Cohen gave Red Riding Hood a sultry twist with this dress, although it does look a bit like her hair might be attached to the hood... Rebecca Ferguson mastered another updo, with a gothically glam plait - complete with spider!

Not much to note about the boys this week. Paije Richardson is still rocking the flat top, Aiden Grimshaw is still working the quiff, and Matt Cardle just looks really boring and fairly unkempt. I know there's less to do with men's hair, but these guys are very uninspiring.

Mary Byrne looked slightly less glam than usual this week, with a fairly lacklustre updo, that's a bit frizzy on top. My favourite, Wagner Carrilho, definitely nailed the Meatloaf look, although I can't work out if he's had his colour done - he certainly looks blonder this week.

It's a real shame that Belle Amie went this week - they looked amazing on Saturday night, with really cool, quirky styling. Loads of volume, texture, and crimping. One Direction - same old, same old; although has the one in the middle got some new colour through the front?
