Working on my bha collection

Last week in Bangkok really took it out of me and I am only just recovering now. One of my clients works for Red Bull and she brought some into the salon for me on Friday, so that perked me up a bit – which is good because there’s no time for me to slow down even if I wanted to. This is a really important time for my collection for the British Hairdresser of the Year Award. The shoot takes place next week, so I am at the final planning stage, which means choosing the right models to complete my look.Although this is the final countdown, I have been thinking about my collection ever since I found out that I had been nominated again. It has been a huge investment of time, energy and money.<p align="center"Andrew-Barton-trophy.jpg

Of course, I can’t stop my day-to-day business to focus entirely on my collection and I’ve had a really busy few days. On Monday, I taught a creative workshop about discovering new techniques and concepts to a group of 20 students at L’Oreal. As we take inspiration from the catwalk, these are really exciting times because all of the autumn/winter trends are coming out. Hair is increasingly becoming an essential element of fashion, so you have to consider the fabrics, techniques and materials, as well as the attitude that is being communicated, and find new ways to complement them. Tuesday was at the other extreme: doing appraisals for the artistic team. An essential part of Saks’ philosophy is investing in staff and understanding their needs, so these are crucial, but exhausting days. Although it doesn’t have the glamour of some of my other jobs, it’s a good chance to spend some one-to-one time with the team and it’s actually really rewardingToday I have my PR hat on and am in Cardiff for a branch visit. The day involves lots of media visits and giving consultations to clients who all want to look 10 years younger. It’ll be another 12 to 16 hour day, with my assistant ringing me with lots of questions and updates about the progress of my BHA collection, but that’s all part of the buzz.ab-sign.jpg
