New research reveals that a quarter of British women splash out more than £2,000 a year to recreate their favourite celebrity hairstyles.

The poll of 600 women, by Fabriah.com, found that Cheryl Cole and Holly Willoughby were the celebs women most wanted to look like and that they were prepared to spend big to get the look.

Of those polled, 82% visited their salon at least every eight weeks and were prepared to pay around £100 on each visit.

But 25% admitted to forking out more than £2,000 each year for extra treatments - including hair extensions every three months.

The women polled also admitted to spending over £500 each year on styling products and were prepared to spend a further £100 on straightening irons and up to £50 on a hairdryer, with curling tongs and hot brushes also in demand.

Spokeswoman for Fabriah.com, Francesca Davies said: "We're surrounded by photos of celebrities with amazing looking hair all the time, so it's no surprise that women try to copy their look.

"It's certainly not a cheap thing to do. A decent cut and colour can be costly but is an essential if you want to keep your hair in good condition. Extensions are more of a luxury, however if you have short hair and can't wait for it to grow out so you can copy Cheryl Cole's look, then extensions are the next best thing.

"Great styling products and shampoo aren't as costly as you may think. Cheap high street brands run out very quickly. The professional products last a lot longer so represent great value for money.

"It is worth remembering that the celebs we hair envy have an army of stylists at their beck and call so their hair should look amazing. The rest of us don't have that luxury. We can all be forgiven for the odd bad hair day."
