Winning wisdom with nick malenko and sophie beattie

Nick Malenko and Sophie Beattie at Royston Blythe won HJ's Midlands Hairdresser of the Year at the 2014 British Hairdressing Awards. We caught up with them to find out what winning meant. How did it feel to have finalized for the awards? It was a great feeling, even more so that both Wolverhampton and our Shrewsbury salon got through. We hope this reflects that the quality of work is consistently great in both of our salons. It's also a huge buzz for all the team. How did it feel when you were announced as winner? It is a relief in one way, because everyone was so excited on the night and you don't want them to be disappointed. We just wanted one of us to win and we didn’t really mind who. What is the value of winning a British Hairdressing Award? I think it represents that hairdressing is a profession which takes hard work and dedication. It acknowledges to clients that we are at the forefront of the industry and, for the team, it shows them an amazing career path and goal to work towards. What advice would you give to others when thinking of entering the awards? Plan well in advance and have an amazing team around you! The photographer, clothes stylist and makeup artist are equally key to your success.
