Martin Crean at Mode won HJ's Wales and South West Hairdresser of the Year at the
2014 British Hairdressing Awards. We caught up with Martin to find out what a win meant to him -
find out how you could be a part of this year's awards here.
How did it feel to have finalised for the awards?
It’s always exciting to be involved in HJ's British Hairdressing Awards and so great to have the recognition for all the work that goes into producing a collection. I was particularly pleased to be included in the finals for two categories this year.
How did it feel when your name was announced as the winner?
It was all a bit of a blur really! The tension and nerves build as the night progresses; it’s great to be involved in such an exciting evening. It's also great to catch-up with other hairdressers and friends and it was so nice to receive the congratulations from the other competitors on the evening. This was the third time I was in the finals for the awards, so I feel so pleased to have reached a goal I set myself when I started training. A dream come true.
What is the value of winning a British Hairdressing Award?
For me, it's the achievement of reaching a personal goal I set myself when I was a trainee. Winning the Wales and South West cateogry is great kudos for my salon too. We have a very loyal customer base who were all so pleased with the result, and obviously we are now building on that client base with new customers who have been contacting us since the win.
What advice would you give to others when thinking of entering the awards?
Don’t give up, believe in yourself and remember hard work always pays off in the end.
