Chie Sato at TONI&GUY won HJ's Avant Garde Hairdresser of the Year at the
2014 British Hairdressing Awards. We caught up with Chie to find out what a win meant to her.
How did it feel to have finalised for the awards?
I was elated. Within the Avant Garde category, the styles are so intricate and very, very time consuming, so to know that I was chosen to go through as a finalist felt very satisfying.
How did it feel when your name was announced as the winner?
Unbelievable. I didn't believe it, and still don't. It felt unreal to hear my name announced on the night.
What is the value of winning a British Hairdressing Award?
A highlight in my career for sure. You take a chance and hope it pays off, and I'm just really grateful that it did. It means so much to me.
What advice would you give to others when thinking of entering the awards?
Go for it but remember to stay true to yourself and style. Don't be afraid to be original.
