Winning advice for the british hairdressing business awards
HJ's British Hairdressing Business Awards reward and recognise individuals and salons that shine with business acumen.
With 13 categories, from Salon Team to Junior of the Year, there is an award for all your team to enter.
All entries must be received by 5pm on Friday, 19th June, so if you and your salon are still putting your entry together, here is some invaluable advice from some 2008 winners.
"When deciding what category to enter, analyse the criteria. Do you really have an effective retail procedure? Does your team move as one force? These Awards attract great salons from all over the country, so you need to believe 100% that you can win it. Make sure you provide enough evidence to leave the judges in no doubt that your name deserves to be on that trophy."
Darren Fowler, Clipso, London Salon of the Year 2"Never leave it to the last minute. You need to allow ample time to complete your entries, with enough time to have a break and look over the final text a few days later. I can guarantee that with a pair of fresh eyes and a clear mind, you will spot mistakes and think of points you want to add. This also allows time to make the entry visually appealing so it stands out. Working on it at the last minute is a sure way to increase chances of making mistakes."
Paul Hawes, review, Petersfield, Hampshire
Salon Team of the Year
"The most important element of entering the Awards is that you stick to answering the questions. Keep them short and factual and support everything you say with hard evidence."
Michael Van Clarke, London Training Award
"My advice is don't leave it to the last minute. The best entries aren't written, they're rewritten. Always have a print-out of your latest draft close by with a coloured pen so you can develop it and add notes continually. Some of the best ideas will come to you at the oddest times."
Tracy McCullough, Zoology, London
Manager of the Year
"Make sure you've triple-checked all the information you are submitting. If your opening statement doesn't fill you with pride, write it again. Back up all your claims with financial or photographic evidence. Make sure all information is easy to read and beautifully presented; don't forget, your entry represents you and your salon."
