The SS18 trends have already sauntered down the catwalks of
fashion week, crept onto the red carpet and will soon be filtering into your requests at salon. Here is a round-up of the hair colour trends your clients will be craving in the coming weeks.
Colour trends aren't always seen on the runway, but they are
inspired by it. It's easy to spot fashion, beauty, street style and social media influences from the likes of Pinterest and Instagram.
This upcoming season the trends can simply be split into two categories – classic and bold. Here are some expert tips for bringing these looks to life.
For the classic
Bronze Goddess

This rich coppery, warm-toned brown is the city equivalent of the natural
beach-babe blonde - effortlessly sun-kissed Using a freehand technique to paint on the colour gives the illusion of gorgeous light reflection. It’s the perfect antidote to all the shades of blonde we see so much of throughout the summer.
"The beauty of bronze is that it looks so natural, yet is really striking, and it can really lift certain skin tones and complexions," says
Jenny Pelter, technical director, Westrow Artistic Team. However, be warned it's a colour that won't work on every client. "Medium and darker complexions with pink undertones can pull off a lighter shade of bronze, however yellow skintones, especially those with very dark eyes, run the risk of appearing more sallow next to lighter bronze tones so they will benefit from sticking to a darker, more reddish version."

Icey toned hair continues to dominate salon requests as Kimmy K keeps rocking her platinum blonde locks. But the colour is high maintenance and requires a lot of upkeep from the client. "This is the kind of shade that calls for a lot of post-colour care and ideally a condition-preserving treatment during the colouring process. A full colour consultation is also essential to determine whether this high-maintenance colour is suitable and if so, which shade is best suited to the client’s skin tone," warns Jenny.
For the bold

For clients that rock deeper tones and want to switch things up for summer, but aren't looking to lighten up, the plethora of grungier, inky colours are calling. "While last season was all about mermaid shades, this season’s colour has toughened up," says
Sarah Black, colour specialist at Linton & Mac. "The mossy green shade at Fendi SS18 is actually very similar to my winning colour at the 2017 L’Oréal Colour Trophy Awards. While it isn’t the most wearable of shades for everyday, I think these attention-grabbing inky colours will come into their own at next summer’s festivals."
Mellow Yellow

As we move away from the pastels and blush colours of the millennial pink era your more adventurous clients will be looking for a hue that packs even more of a punch – enter, yellow. "Jeremy Scott’s SS18 show was heavy on the yellow hues and we predict an influx of requests for this sunshine shade. However, we’ll be leaving the juicy vibrant yellow hair trend of 2017 behind as this spring/summer yellow will be much more mellow," predicts Sarah.
