With the FA Cup still a recent memory and the World Cup looming Simon Shaw, Wahl’s European artistic director, looks at this year’s winning hair looks on the pitch.
Bacary Sagna, Arsenal
Barcary’s is known not only for his fantastic footballing techniques but also his trademark ‘golden curtains’, the braided hairstyle which separates him from the rest. In a recent interview he revealed he has in fact had this style for a number of years. and that it was actually for a bet with his father.
Bacary’s natural hair colour is very dark so the blonde is achieved by bleaching sections of the hair and using a toner to cool down any nasty yellow tones which may appear. The braids are very thin and intricate, and are best done by an afro specialist. The hair is separated into a middle parting and then separated again into smaller sections. These are then braided.
Carl Jenkinson, Arsenal

Carl’s style is one that we are seeing more commonly these days both celebrity wise and in the salon. It’s a u-turn on the short back and sides, with the longer section on top and shorter sides and back. Creating this look is very simple. The top section of the hair should be trimmed, to ensure the height is a within reasonable standards. Using a WAHL Cordless Super Taper, the sides should be trimmed using a number two or three blade, creating a distinct effect but nothing to drastic.
When styling the top section of the hair I would use the Wahl Academy Klay, which creates a matt, textured finish and gives the style a strong hold.
Marouane Fellaini, Chelsea

Marouane Fellani has had numerous hairstyles over the years from a crop to braids and even a silver toned colour. However during this years FA Cup his afro was one of the most memorable styles seen. Afro hair is a specialist subject within hairdressing so I’d definitely recommend seeking specialist advice if you’re thinking about opting for this style!
This style is the natural one of Marouane, however he has admitted adding extra volume to give a more drastic effect. I would always advise using a specialist shampoo and conditioner to keep hair in good condition and full of moisture. Using the diffuser on your hairdryer is a great way of giving hair that extra oomph!
