As awards season begins to draw to a close, HJ had a chat with some industry experts to hear their thoughts on some of the hair looks seen at the 2023 Oscars.
Florence Pugh
Sophie Chandler from the RUSH Artistic Team commented on the actress' hair, saying: "For me, the stand out of the evening was Florence Pugh – wow, what a look. Styled into a beautiful updo with an artistry twist, this is the beginning of a new trend which is about to take the world by storm. Hair artistry is such a creative and detailed way to add to a style and make it truly unique.
"With Florence, the hair was styled into a ponytail and this was then flipped over towards the front of the hair to create the illusion of a choppy fringe. The hair was styled and given a wet look vibe, which is very fresh and modern – showcased on the runways of fashion week just two weeks ago."

Jessica Chastain
Paul Watts, for JOICO Europe, commented: "Keeping it utterly beautiful is the amazing Jessica Chastain, a celebrity who always gets it right on the red carpets. Wearing a strapless Gucci gown, Jessica had her hair parted to the side and styled into beautiful waves, loosely flowing over the shoulder. Her auburn locks looked as fresh as ever and the hair was full of incredible shine – this is key to getting this look correct. When finishing the look, really play on the high shine and use a finishing spray to add that little extra touch of glamour to the look."

Winnie Harlow
Ainsley Gray, from F&M Hairdressing, said: "Winnie just absolutely nailed her look last night and I have to say it was my favourite look from the night. Wearing a very classy yet simple gown, Winnie styled her hair
into a very textured updo, playing with curls, volume and a much more relaxed feel. The isolated strands which are left more relaxed create a real dramatic effect."

Cate Blanchett
Cally Borg shared: "I'm really crushing on Cate Blanchett's updo - it looks effortlessly undone yet stunning, and perfect for her face shape and outfit. It’s very soft, elegant and off the face styles are becoming more
popular; for a long time we've seen lots of hair around the face but taking it away can be really striking, as we can see with Cate. This echoes the trend for short hair that we're seeing at the moment, and this is an example of a hair-up that gives the short hair vibe on longer hair without cutting it."

Austin Butler
Luke Benson commented: "The guys looked amazing this year - understated and cool - but still no one's cooler than what Austin Butler is doing right now. Austin, who portrayed Elvis, has this effortlessly cool look about him, but a sort of grungy, almost rockabilly vibe with his hair, which was complemented by his outfit. Really love his overall look.”

Halle Berry
Darrel Starkey was a big fan of the actress' look, explaining: "She's always oozing glamour and always loves to experiment with her hair. Last night she opted for volume and texture, a deep side parting and beautiful vintage-inspired waves throughout her shorter style - which paired perfectly with the Grecian theme she had chosen. Halle has gone lighter with her hair, with golden tones throughout the ends, which has given the look a whole new dimension."
