What are your new year's hair resolutions?

We’ve officially made it to the end of 2020 (phew!) so, for HJ’s Season of Giving, we’re turning attention to what 2021 may look like, asking some big hitters in the hair industry: “What are your New Year's resolutions?”

“My New Year's Resolution is to remember to set aside time to educate myself. During lockdown, I was able to do this and I learnt so much. There is so much about our wonderful profession that I don't know. Also, not to prevaricate!  If you want to do something don't postpone it, just do it. We've just been shown that life as we know it can change drastically from one day to the other, so there really is no time like the present!”

"My New Year’s resolution for 2021 is to bring mindfulness into even more hair salons across the globe. I have been coaching mind-set to salon owners for over a decade and my personal mission is to positively impact 7.5 million people by uplifting them. I will do this by helping 7,500 salons and teams with their mind-set and mental health using our M.A.G.I.C mind set tools. If each of these impact 100 clients to lift their vibration, and those clients share with 10 people each, that’s 7.5 million people impacted in a positive mindful way. The ripple effect of helping people harness the power of their mind really can make a positive change.”

“2021 is the year when I want to start entering awards and follow in the footsteps of my boss, Marcello Moccia, who has won four British Hairdressing Awards. I love barbering and want to start creating images and taking part in competitions.”

“I want to become a master extensionist and become the best extensionist in my area. I also need to make sure I eat and drink when I’m fully booked with clients!”

“One of my resolutions is to continue to promote a healthy working environment and culture. My teams' wellbeing is at the top of my list and I think there are lots of things that, as employers, we can work on so our teams remain happy, motivated and focused. Our teams are the strength of the business so making sure their wellness- both physical and mental- is crucial to our success. I plan to push forward our wellness programme and build a community around Bloggs that all support our same ethos.” “I also want to improve the sustainability aspects of the business and reduce our carbon footprint by looking at all aspects of the running of both salons. It is so crucial that we look after the planet and leave something for our children and their children. As business owners we are in a privileged position where we can actively make improvements to how eco-friendly our salons are and make changes that will affect the environment.”

“I’ve got the bug for winning awards and want to win North Western Hairdresser of the Year for the third time and become a member of the Hall of Fame.”

“My mantra for next year is to relax and try not to change things that I may have no control over. As a Sagittarius and a control freak, it’s hard to sit back and see how things ‘evolve’ all by themselves, but sometimes the best outcomes happen from patience, observing or just breathing through a situation. We’ll see how it goes- wish me luck!”

“2020 has been a pivotal moment in time for all of us as it has given us time to rethink, rebalance and reassess. Using the ICIAIW format, my resolutions for 2021 are: I Can - choose to forgive, let go and move forward. I Am - strong, proud, determined, and full of faith. I Will – allow and push myself to learn, grow and develop both professionally and personally and will always listen and care for those around me. Overall, I intend to go into 2021 empowering people with the power of great hair. Bring it on!”

"I’d like to build on the success of this year both within the salon and further developing my relationship with Goldwell. I have been working as an Goldwell Artist which, of course, was hindered this year with COVID, so we will be picking this up again next year.”

“COVID and both lockdowns have taught me to take the time to appreciate all the small and great things I already have in my life. My New Year’s resolution for 2021 is to find the positives in every situation, and remain optimistic and flexible, even during the tough times.” “My personal thought for the year ahead is to focus on being grateful every day when my business is open - even if it is working super long hours - because we don’t know when we may have to close again - and to be optimistic that this situation won't last forever. We can do this!”
