balestra.jpgGianni Calignano.jpgAsk any designer how important the hair is to their runway show and the answer will be unanimous: it's essential. Having spent months creating their haute and ready-to-wear collections, they want the models to look fabulous from head to toe. And there is one style that is winner every time - the updo. Whether it is a top knot as seen at Charles Anastase or a chignon as seen at Carolina Herrera, the style is a perfect accompaniement to a sleek, sophisticated dress. With fabrics floating and feminine at Rome Fashion Week, the updo was a favourite with many designers, including Balestra, who opted for sleek top knots. On the other side of the spectrum, 40s-inspired soft waves were also a popular looks, as seen at Gianni Calignano and Tony Ward.
