Want to learn new skills or enrol on a fresh course but not sure where to start? Here’s a selection of training academies across the UK and Ireland, from North to South.
Glasgow: Rainbow Room International Academy
Rainbow Room International’s Training Academy has produced some of Scotland’s brightest hairdressing talent since 2003. All the mentors are top stylists and train over 80 students a year to high industry standards. With floor area of 7,500sq dedicated to student development, the academy gives trainees the opportunity to gain qualifications such as Scotland's SVQ 2/3 modern apprenticeships and to enrol on professional courses such as Geometric Principles and Mastering Retail.

Leeds: L’Oréal Academy
With courses covering inspiration, colour, cutting, styling, business and digital, the L’Oréal Academy in Leeds covers a broad spectrum of programmes. There are professional front of house courses and business focused ones as well as more creative trend and colour seminars. Plus, the academy will have amazing guest artist sessions running throughout the year. L’Oréal also has academies in Manchester and London.

Manchester: Toni & Guy Academy
Toni & Guy’s Manchester Academy is located in the heart of the city centre and provides the highest standard of bespoke hairdressing. Managed by international artistic directors Jon Wilsdon, Georgie Mathers and Scott Fleming, the academy offers six trend driven and salon-focused courses that grant an internationally recognised qualification. A maximum class size of seven students, along with the option of one-to-one training, provides an intimate environment to learn.

London: TIGI Academy
The TIGI European Academy in London is a space for collaborating , mentoring and learning the core disciplines of TIGI hairdressing. From cutting and colouring to styling and session work, the academy has courses to inspire hairdressers of all levels. Located in South London, it is led by TIGI's international creative team who work closely with Anthony Mascolo. TIGI also has an academy in Dublin.

Dublin: Dylan Bradshaw Academy
The newly expanded premises in Dublin focuses on small classes. Trainers have experience in all different disciplines from show work to intimate seminars. The academy’s emphasis is on the City & Guilds Certified Diploma Course, which provides students with theoretical knowledge as well as work experience in the award-winning salon. More advanced courses include Trend Forecast and a Masterclass with Dylan and his creative team.

Wolverhampton: Bad Apple Hair Academy
Since launching in 2006, Bad Apple Hair has been on a mission to do things differently. The purpose-built training academy doesn’t just provide apprenticeships for its own salons, it also works with independent salons and groups to provide world-class training that goes beyond normal NVQ apprenticeships delivered by local colleges. The salon brand offers a full NVQ Level 2 quali cation and students have the option to progress to an NVQ Level 3.

Ipswich: Alan D
With a combined 80 years of experience between them, Alan Hemmings and creative director and education director Edward Hemmings ensure that the highest standards are met in their academy. The building itself is purpose-built using bespoke equipment and created to reflect the look and feel of a hairdressing salon or barbershop. Private courses in both barbering and ladies hairdressing, as well as apprenticeship training and traineeships are available.

The hairdressing qualifications at Central Training Group are awarded by two of the largest hairdressing awarding bodies; City & Guilds and VTCT. In fact, it is the City & Guilds’ largest hairdressing training centre in the UK, celebrating over 30 years of providing their courses. Their Southend branch offers a hairdressing apprenticeship, study programme and adult Courses for ages 19 and over.

London: Sassoon Academy
Moving from its former home on Brook Street to a new residence at London’s Buckingham Gate last year, the academy continues to inspire hairdressers of all abilities. The new academy features a 125-seat theatre, a multi-language interpreter system and a student lounge filled with books and resources. London: Rush Training Academy

London: Goldwell Academy

Bristol: Reflections Training Academy
Multiple state of the art studios are at the heart of Reflections Training Academy in Bristol. They include a barbering suite, lecture rooms with interactive presentation equipment and comprehensive computer suites with training resources. There’s also a learner liaison room for one to one support. Bournemouth: Lee Stafford Training Academy
Bournemouth and Poole college have teamed up with Lee Stafford to to develop new innovative ‘recipes’, exclusive to Lee Stafford Academies. These ‘recipes’ reflect cutting-edge styles seen in salons across the UK and give training in hair cutting, styling, colouring and barbering techniques. Tutors have all been trained to the highest standard by Lee himself. The Lee Stafford courses also run at Doncaster, North Kent and North Lindsey colleges.
