Name: Emiliano Vitale
Age: 40
Salon: é SALON, Sydney Australia
1. What is your biggest achievement?
Walking on stage in at the Royal Albert Hall to receive my 2nd AIPP award, before being the first Australian salon to present at the Alternative Hair Show, in front of 5000 hairdressers and my parents.
2. If you weren't a hairdresser what would you be?
A film director
3. How would your clients describe you?
Loud yet quiet, passionate and intense
4. Which one style do you wish you had created?
Pageboy
5. Who is your style icon?
Steve McQueen
6. Who is your hairdressing idol?
I have 4 - Robert Lobetta, Trevor Sorbie, John Sahag and my Dad.
7. Which hairdresser would you most like to work with (past or present)?
Trevor Sorbie. In the 90s it seemed there was incredible talent in that place and the people who have come out of there seem to be shaping the creative world in which we live and work now. My friends Jamie and Sally Brooks, Antoinette Beenders, Eugene Souleiman and of course Angelo Seminara, are all very impressive.
8. Who cuts your hair?
Lisa Muscat, a Senior Stylist at é SALON - but it's more like she gives me a buzz cut!
9. Favourite part of the job?
I LOVE cutting hair
10. Who is your most famous client past or present?
Michael Crawford
11. Last time you were lost for words?
Sharing a dressing room with Andrew Collinge at the Alternative Hair Show in London.
12. Which one product couldn't you live without?
L'Oréal Professionnel tecni.art Volume Lift Spray Mousse
13. Is there anything about the industry that makes you mad?
Those who discourage the next generation from pursuing their dreams basically due to the lack of their own achievements, lack of self belief and because it is easier to clip the wings of those special individuals who wish to fly, instead of encouraging them to achieve what they simply could not, or did not have the opportunity to do so.
And those in the next generation that do not appreciate the opportunities they are given, by the amazing individuals who have come before them, to realise their dreams.
14. What's the biggest gaffe you've made in your career
Falling off stage at rehearsal for my first ever hair show and severely spraining my ankle.
15.What's the best career advice you've ever been given?
Stay true to yourself.
16. Last time you were star-struck?
Andrew Collinge made a massive impact on me as a young kid and meeting him backstage at the Alternative Hair Show left me a mumbling mess. It was actually very embarrassing.
17. Time you were most proud to be in hairdressing?
Everyday I wake up I feel blessed to be a part of this industry
18. What celebrity haircut do you wish had never caught on?
The Jennifer Aniston 'Rachel' cut - clients still bring in pictures wanting that style.
19. What haircut would you love to make a come-back and how would you re-invent it for the noughties?
The pageboy. I would probably create a slightly softer edge if anything but really it is such a classic!
20. Sleek and shiny or messy bed hair?
Sleek and shiny - nothing like light reflecting from the hair.
