We pay tribute to Rita Rusk, who died 29 December 2022, at the age of 75. Rita and her former partner Irvine opened their first salon in Lanarkshire, creating Hamilton in the 1970s, before later expanding into Glasgow.
Hairdressers Journal Executive Director Jayne Lewis Orr reflects on Rita's career:
“It is with great sadness that we hear of the passing of Rita Rusk, an artistic innovator who was the first woman to win the British Hairdresser of the Year title in 1987, with her former partner, Irvine. Renowned for her energy, style, creativity and education, Rita was an inspiration and the hairdressing industry has lost an icon.”
