Top five waves for spring/summer 2011

Published 15th Jan 2011 by hunsleyr

If there's one look you have to embrace this Spring/Summer 2011, make it waves. Pack away the straighteners and embrace what nature gave you - or use the latest products to get the look. Romantic, exaggerated, bold, brash and modern, waves for this season are soft and anything but subtle. Here are my top five waves for coming months:

1 Sexy Janice Joplin-inspired waves were order of the day at the Felder Felder show. Nick Irwin for TIGI said, "I wanted the hair to be all one texture with a middle parting and clean through the roots. When the girls walked down the runway I wanted the hair to flow behind them off their faces." Spray TIGI Catwalk Your Highness Firm Hold Hairspray onto small sections of hair, roll into a pin curl and clamp with straightening irons. Brush through with a Mason Pearson brush for a weightless cloudy haze.

betty jackson1.jpg3 The Spijkers en Spijkers show saw an uber feminine collection of playsuits, girly dresses and tailored pieces with intricate detailing and quirky use of lace, florals and diamante buttons, complemented by a modern tak of 40s Veronica Lake waves. Efi Davies for Toni & Guy created a distressed and dry texture for a loose and youthful feel. Blow-dry hair then place a low side parting and Marcel wave the hair vertically with fingers and clip to set. Distress the texture and finish with spray.

Spijkers en spijkers1.jpg4 London welcomed Giles back with open arms with a show that truly rocked the house - kaleidoscopic knit wear, stunning gowns and quirky eye-ball prints on tailored shirts - this collection really was Giles at his best. Stylist and friend Sacha Mascolo-Tarbuck took disco queens as her inspiration - think Farrah Fawcett, big, glam hair.giles1.jpg5 Peter Gray for Moroccanoil created beautiful, intricate cascades of curls for Badgley Mischka, with a playful touch of decadent 70's frizz, as a perfect counterpoint to the slim, narrow silhouettes and the smooth, diaphanous fabrics of the clothes. "The curls are tight and combed through into a wave at the front, looser at the crown, with progressively smaller curls as they reach the back of the head," said Gray. "They're designed to tease the eye and keep it moving, almost in the same way as when the fabrics flow and fall as the models walk.  We dressed many of the looks with eye‐catching 70's accents including head scarves wrapped around the head and tied into asymmetrical buns, and soft summer hats. We also added custom‐designed gold, silver and diamond jewellery as well as gold coins into the hair. The mood is light and summery while still being very posh."
