Thousands raised for charities in memory of hairdresser janet maitland

Local and national charities are benefitting from the generous donations made to honour the life of businesswoman and hairdresser Janet Maitland, who passed away earlier this year. Family, friends, clients and colleagues have all contributed to a fund in honour of Janet Maitland, owner of Janet Maitland Hair Excellence. The fund has reached a phenomenal £5,000 in the seven months since Janet passed. Janet’s legacy is gifting support to local, national and international charitable organisations in support of people and pets. Two national charities, The Hairdressers’ Charity and Marie Curie are beneficiaries of the fund; both were close to Janet’s heart. “The donation will help to make a huge difference to support colleagues in the industry who are financially struggling or in crisis,” said Jean Kelly, Head of The Hairdressers’ Charity. While Stray Aid is the local beneficiary, located in Durham, which provides homes and shelter for dogs. Janet was a huge lover and supporter of Stray Aid - adopting a dog at the beginning of the year with her husband Peter, which has now become a great companion for Peter. Internationally, Janet helped to raise money for a number of causes, including Schwarzkopf’s Shaping Futures, an initiative formed to support disadvantaged youngsters into training and a career in hairdressing. Janet, Peter and many of their team have worked on these international projects, with Janet’s support making a difference internationally. Janet’s husband, Peter McDermott says: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their wonderful generosity and kindness. We are thrilled that the money is able to go to such worthy causes. Janet would be so pleased.
